A message from Keith Allen, Director, ncbf

ncbf are delighted to announce the venue and date for the National Festival 2009:

Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff

Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 April 2009

After presenting the National Festival in Manchester (2005), Glasgow (2006), Gateshead (2007) and Warwick (2008), ncbf continue their 'round the UK strategy' with a visit to Cardiff in 2009 – the first time that the ncbf National Festival has been staged in Wales.

The National Festival of ncbf, following the Regional Festivals, is the culmination of the participation of a huge number of bands around the UK representing over 5000 musicians in total.

These two days will be packed with exciting performances of both wind band and big band programmes. Throughout the Festival there will also be performances given by the RWCMD own wind band/big band and jazz combos. In addition, there will be an extensive Trade Area with the opportunity to browse, order and buy your musical needs.

All in all, plenty to enjoy, educate and eat! We are grateful to both the welcome and support given to us by all at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

ncbf also aims to encourage bands to explore new repertoire through the annually updated Repertoire Lists, this year support by The PRS Foundation. Participating bands are assessed and awarded Gold, Silver, Bronze or Merit.

It is important to stress that the Festival is non-competitive and that the adjudication is a measure of the band's attempt to achieve a particular level of performance and not to make comparisons between participating bands. We hope you will enjoy playing in ncbf this year and look forward to receiving your completed application – please view all of our website for full details.

Finally, a huge debt of thanks must go to both Yamaha and R Smith and Co Ltd for their continued sponsorship of ncbf.
